First Time Climbers (Ages 14+)
Book an Introductory Lesson Plus to get you started. This is an easy way for one or two people to get into indoor rock climbing. Whether you are alone, two friends, or an adult and a child, you will get plenty of opportunity to try out indoor climbing over a 4-week period.
IMPORTANT: Every new visitor is required to sign a waiver form to participate in climbing or belaying. Save time, fill out the form online and we will have it waiting in our system when you arrive. Participants under 18 are legally required to have a parent to sign the waiver, without exceptions. Please note that grandparents are not permitted to fill out waiver forms for their grandchildren.
At the Rock and Rope Climbing Centre, there are two types of climbing, Top Rope and Bouldering**.
Top Rope climbing requires two people, a belayer and a climber. The belayer ensures the safety of the climber in the event of a fall or to lower them upon completion of the climb. The belaying system requires the use of a harness, rope and a belay device. With the Introductory Lesson Plus, you will learn how the belay system works and how to use it safely.
Bouldering** is climbing without ropes on walls that reach up 12 feet. Despite the shorter walls and shorter climbs, they are generally more strenuous. Boulder climbing is done in a separate dedicated area called the Boulder Room. Falling is inevitable, however, your falls are protected by our state of the art safety flooring system to cushion the impact forces generated by your falls. One of the main attractions to boulder climbing is that it does not require a climbing partner like Top Rope climbing.
A Boulder Room orientation only requires one person at the time of registration, so If you prefer to climb alone or have difficulties finding a climbing partner, you can still sign up for the Introductory Lesson PLUS and do the Boulder Room orientation.
** The Boulder Room has an age requirement of 13 years. Exemptions are made for our Youth Program participants
To get you started with indoor rock climbing, we offer several Introductory Lesson options to best meet your circumstances.
