Key Responsibilities:
- Lead weekly 2-hour climbing sessions for teenagers, including warm-ups, technique instruction, and practice time.
- Assist in the develop and implementation of lesson plans that progress from basic to intermediate climbing skills.
- Ensure participant safety by teaching and enforcing proper safety measures and belay techniques.
- Introduce and demonstrate various climbing techniques, including footwork, sequencing, flagging, smearing, and intermediate moves.
- Organize and supervise climbing games and challenges to keep sessions engaging and fun.
- Monitor and evaluate participants' progress.
- Adapt teaching methods to accommodate different skill levels and learning styles.
- Maintain climbing equipment and report any safety concerns.
- Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages socialization and teamwork.
- Communicate effectively with participants, parents, and staff.
- Lead warm-up exercises and ice-breaker activities.
- Facilitate group climbing sessions, providing individual attention as needed.
- Conduct a cool-down and stretching routine at the end of each session.
- Complete session reports, noting participant progress and any incidents.
- Certified climbing instructor (asset)
- Current First Aid and CPR certification
- Minimum 2 years of experience in climbing instruction, preferably with youth
- Strong knowledge of climbing techniques, safety procedures, and equipment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work Sundays and commit to 8 or 16-week program cycles
- Experience working with teenagers in a sports or outdoor education setting
- Knowledge of youth development and group dynamics
- Ability to create engaging and progressive lesson plans
- Patience and adaptability in teaching various skill levels
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Enthusiasm for fostering a love of climbing in young people
- Familiarity with goal-setting techniques and SMART goal framework
The Teen Climbing Club offers 8 and 16-week sessions, with each session following a structured format:
- Ground Warm-up: 10 minutes
- Wall Warm-up: 10 minutes (using games from provided options)
- Introduction of New Technique and Review: 5-10 minutes
- Climbing Practice: 1 hour 20 minutes (split between bouldering and top rope)
- Cool-down and Stretching: 10 minutes

Responsibilities
As the Youth Program Coordinator, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Creating a safe and inclusive environment for youth participants, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and best practices
- Coordinating the Spider Monkeys and Chimps Climbing Program to provide a nurturing, educational, and challenging environment for young climbers
- Collaborating with instructors and staff to design age-appropriate and skill-building climbing activities
- Mentoring and supervising youth climbers during program sessions, providing guidance and support as they develop their climbing skills
- Coordinating CAMP CLIMB Day Camps for PA Days, March Break, and Summer, offering exciting and educational climbing experiences for participants
- Oversight of email communication to parents regarding program enrolment, registration, and scheduling, ensuring clear and timely information dissemination for youth programs
- Maintaining program records, tracking participant progress, and providing regular updates to parents and guardians
- Assisting in the recruitment, training, and supervision of program staff
- Contributing to the overall marketing and promotion of youth programs to attract new participants and enhance program visibility
- Collaborating with management to develop and manage the program budget, including resource allocation and procurement of program supplies
To excel in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and attributes:
- Experience working with youth in a recreational or educational setting
- Experience with Rock Gym Pro software (an asset)
- Strong knowledge of rock climbing techniques, safety standards, and equipment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate young participants
- Organizational skills and attention to detail to effectively plan and execute program activities
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of instructors, staff, and volunteers
- Passion for youth development and a commitment to creating a positive and enriching experience for young climbers
- Certification in youth program leadership, climbing instruction, or related areas (an asset)
